What is the Community Literacy Collaborative (CLC)?

The Community Literacy Collaborative is Battle Creek's community-wide initiative to accomplish our vision: As a highly literate community, everyone in Battle Creek embraces learning as a lifelong lifestyle and collaborates in moving toward greater literacy to improve our quality of life.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life in our community by increasing literacy opportunities for everyone, through

  • strong partnerships,
  • sufficient capacity, and
  • monitoring progress for continuous literacy improvement.

Our core belief: We believe that a highly literate community is the key to everyone’s quality of life, economic self-sufficiency, and family stability.

Our core values:
Collaboration. Sharing resources. Diversity. Open communication.
Understanding community members’ needs. Respect.
 
We have developed a 6-year Community Literacy Plan with 3 goals and 9 strategies to carry out the mission and achieve the vision (see the URL below).
