Welcome to our Community Literacy website where LITERACY resources are linked to the community.
We know that if our young people do not enjoy reading, they won't read much. And if they don't read much, their chances for success in life diminish.
Here are some tips:
1. Provide access to books at home. Make your home 'print-rich.'
2. Provide quiet time and a comfortable space at home for reading.
3. Take your child to the public library regularly, where there is always access to books and quiet for reading. And make it a fun outing!
4. Read aloud to your child. Children read more on their own when they are read to at home.
5. Be a model for your child---read your own book when your child is reading.
6. Encourage your child to read, and make sure that the books are understandable and interesting to your child.
7. Tell your child that reading books they enjoy will help them become better readers.
8. If your child appears to have difficulty in basic reading skills, check with your child's teacher.
